[REVIEW] ‘Hades’ – The Game that rewards you for not winning.

No sore losers allowed in this game by Supergiant Games!

Dungeon crawler games, while fast-paced, can get repetitive. You enter a dungeon, take on villains and then you plunder whatever loot that’s been dropped before going through the same motions in the next level. Supergiant Games’ Hades, while running on the same principle, puts a twist on that – you’re just meant to be defeated, and only by losing are you able to progress through the story.

As Zagreus, the son of Hades, players will journey through chamber after chamber filled with multiple enemies, each sent by Hades himself as he attempts to thwart his son from escaping the Underworld and upwards towards the mortal realm. You’ll get to choose from a selection of weapons, ranging from the Stygian blade (awesome if you’re into close combat) to the Coronacht bow for those long-ranged attacks.

If the thought of dungeon crawling is too grueling and painful for you, Hades has a ‘God Mode’ option to help make things just a smidge easier. I say smidge because it actually doesn’t make the gameplay easier but instead gives you an opportunity to experience the story and interact with the cast of memorable characters. So, moral of the story is, the more you die and restart the game, the deeper you get into the lore of Hades.

Oh, and while you’re in the House of Hades, don’t forget to give Cerberus some pets!

Hades is now available on Nintendo Switch and PC.
